KC and The Sunshine Band



With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, KC and The Sunshine Band are one of the seminal forces in pop. The group pioneered an original funk style that continues to delight old fans and attract new ones into the millennium.

Hits like GET DOWN TONIGHT, THAT'S THE WAY (I LIKE IT) and SHAKE YOUR BOOTY established KC & the Sunshine Band as movers and shakers in the music business. Along with the Beatles, KC's the only new artist to have four number one singles in the span of one year: BOOGIE SHOES, GET DOWN TONIGHT THAT'S THE WAY (I LIKE IT), and ROCK YOUR BABY.

Celebrating over 25 years of making music, KC started working in the music business at Miami T.K. Records/Studio. At l7 he performed menial tasks around the complex. In 1973, he formed The Sunshine Band, segued to playing and producing and released the band's first single, BLOW YOUR WHISTLE, which made the R&B top 15. His second album, KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND, was released in 1975, went triple platinum and contained the hits, GET DOWN TONIGHT and THAT'S THE WAY (I LIKE IT). PARTS, KC's 1977, third disc also went triple platinum and spawned the singles I'M YOUR BOOGIE MAN, SHAKE YOUR BOOTY and KEEP IT COMIN' LOVE. In 1978, he added yet another number one with BOOGIE SHOES, which was originally the "B" side of SHAKE YOUR BOOTY. And in 1979, KC had a number one hit with YES, I'M READY, a duet with Ten DeSario.

In 1976, KC won a Grammy for best R&B song for WHERE IS THE LOVE, which was recorded by Betty Wright. He also received Grammy Awards for Album of the year as well as Producer of the year in 1978 for his work on SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. In 1975 he won the American Music Award for Best R&B Artist.

KC's music continues to be a favorite today. His songs have appeared in ads for companies like General Motors, Burger King, Budweiser and Nestlé Toll House Cookies.

His music has also been featured in over 75 movies such as Forrest Gump (Get Down Tonight); Austin Powers (Shake Your Booty, Get Down Tonight, and That's The Way I Like It); Boogie Nights (Boogie Shoes); Saturday Night Fever (Boogie Shoes); Rush Hour (Get Down Tonight); CARLITO'S WAY (ROCK YOUR BABY, SHAKE YOUR BOOTY & THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT). His music will also be featured in the new Austin Powers movie, Goldmember. His music is regularly heard at any basketball, baseball or football game. His music really is Everywhere!

Music acts like White Zombie and Spin Doctors have covered his music. Additionally, KC & the Sunshine Band's grooves and bass lines have been sampled in everything from R&B by R. Kelly to Rap by Snoop Dogg to Dance by Ultra Nate and many many more...

From the time of his biggest hits, KC has toured regularly in the U.S., Asia, Japan, South America, and Australia. In 1995, he recorded GET DOWN LIVE, a concert album that was gleaned from his performance in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Peru 'and Melbourne, Australia. KC's THE BEST OF KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND went gold in 1999. KC & The Sunshine Band celebrated their 25th Anniversary in 1999 with a commemorative double CD release titled THE 25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION. The year 2000 got off to an incredible start for the band with appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Good Morning America". There was no stopping KC & The Sunshine Band in 2001. KC appeared on the season finale of Ally McBeal". The band also performed with Trick Daddy on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno". A feature article in TV Guide in the Fall of 2001. Finally in 2001, KC was honored with the NARAS Governors Award, the highest honor given by a chapter of the Academy.
